5 Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make in Their Presentations

by Coach Kardan

Presentations skills are important for entrepreneurs. They must be able to express their ideas and business visions through presentations and speaking to people. However, at times they may be missing vital opportunities by making the following mistakes:

  1. They don’t understand the client’s needs. As an entrepreneur, you must use a language pattern that will align with your customer’s need , so you can inspire, motivate and create a compelling future. For example, if you always use the word “difficult”, then this will become true. Instead, use the word “challenging” to create a more positive environment. using the right words will create a better experience for your customers, especially if you use their words!
  2. They don’t know exactly what they are selling. If you are presenting a new product or service, make sure you talk about why it is an absolute MUST to have this product and what the customer will lose if they don’t have it. Make sure to know the product/service/ideas inside and out, so that you can also answer any questions smoothly.
  3. Not comfortable talking about money. This is an issue many people have. People think that talking about money is disrespectful. However, the audience is surely curious about the cost. Be frank, open and communicate clearly about the numbers. Being open about money will give you credibility and professionalism. Furthermore, express your pricing reasoning or any other special offer.
  4. Don´t know how to empower the audience to take action. You can give a great presentation on your new idea, product, or service but what’s the point if at the end, you don’t empower your audience to take action? Make sure you are certain about what action you want them to take. To Visit your website? Sign up? buy the product? Communicate this clearly to your audience and make it simple and easy for them to do it.
  5. Don’t have a follow up system. After an important presentation, it is crucial to follow up with the audience within 24-48 hours. You must prepare a system in which you are able to get in touch with them, whether that be via e-mail, social media or other mediums. Make sure to get their details in a respectful manner so that you can let them know about future presentations, speaking engagements and other news that might be valuable to them.
