What’s great about virtual learning and working? There are many benefits to this if it is done effectively. It will save you one of your greatest assets in life, called TIME.
“Do not wait. The time will never be just right. Start where you stand: Work with whatever tools you have at your command, and the better tools will be found as you go along.” Napoleon Hill
Going virtual saves countless hours by eliminating the commuting time, allowing you to work from home without having to leave your space or go into an office setting. It also allows you to adjust your schedules to accommodate other commitments, such as family obligations or personal interests. Additionally, you can easily connect with colleagues worldwide since most communication happens through email or messaging apps. Finally, virtual environments are much less expensive than traditional ones because you don’t have to rent out space or pay for travel expenses.
What can go wrong with going virtual? When there is no preparation, clear rules and discipline, things can be really chaotic. How often have you seen virtual records online where the attendees aren’t aware they are being recorded and don’t look their best? Some attend without turning their webcam on, resulting in disengagement and getting busy scrolling the feeds on their social media. Another disaster can happen when the lecturer or the manager speaks one way only without being engaged with the audience or getting their feedback and taking their opinions.
Solution? Prior communication must state that sharing random records of the online session is not allowed to respect everyone’s privacy and comfort. Ideally, if a photo of a virtual event is planned to go online, In that case, the organizers must communicate clearly, ask the attendees for their permission, and announce WHEN the photo is taken so everyone can be ready. Making it mandatory to switch on the webcam can help you be aware of your presence and become more focused and engaged during the meeting/session.
